Augusta Mortensen's Heritage (Nana's Mother)

“My parents were born in Parowan, Utah, a little Mormon town in the southern part of the state to worthy pioneers who had joined the church and came to Utah to live and raise families. My grandfather, Hans Jorgen Mortensen, was born April 11, 1837 in Denmark and was baptized October 18, 1885. My grandmother Mortensen was Dionitia Emily Alexander. Her father, which would be my great grandfather, fought in the Haun’s Mill Massacre and was one of only 5 survivors.

My grandfather Mitchell was William Cooke Mitchell II, born April 13, 1835 in Liverpool, England. He was 11 years old when his family was driven out of Nauvoo on July 1, 1846. My grandmother was Augusta Pehrson, a convert from Sweden, who came to Parowan in 1866 and was sealed to grandfather on June 13, 1868 in the Salt Lake Endowment House.”
